Each item added to ArcGIS Online has a detailed properties page where you can update the information for an item that you have access to. When you add an item, the item properties for that item automatically display for you to modify or add information to. You can use your content workspace to update an item properties page when you are logged in to your account.
The diagram below points out the different fields in an item's properties and the various actions you can perform.
Use these buttons to modify the properties of your item:
1–Edit: Change your page into edit mode. You can modify the following fields: Tags, Credits, Summary, Description, Extent, and Access and Use Constraints. Extent includes an interface for setting the extent.
2–Share: By default, your item is not shared which means it is private and will not appear in search results. Share it with everybody (public) or specific groups when you want others to find and use it. See Sharing your items with others for more information on sharing.
3–Delete: When you delete an item, it is no longer stored or accessible through ArcGIS Online.
4–Move To: Change the folder in your personal workspace where your item is stored
5–Update: Replace a map or layer file with an updated version from your computer. The file names must match or you will add a new item instead of updating an existing one. When you update an item, you are given a choice to keep the item description that’s on ArcGIS Online or overwrite it with the one from your data’s properties.
6–Directory breadcrumb: This shows the location of your item within your content directory. Clicking the hyperlinked breadcrumb is a fast way to get back to your content workspace.
7–Use this Item: Your options for using the item are listed here. The list depends of the type of content. For example, you can open layer package in ArcGIS. With Map services, you can open in ArcGIS, view in browser, view details, and Add to Web Map.
8–Owner: Your ArcGIS Online username is listed as the content owner and is a searchable field if you have this enabled in your user profile.
9–Tags: Click to search for items with this tag.
